Currently, the health district’s plans are flexible and will be modified depending on the supply of vaccine, when the vaccine is delivered, and the priority groups that are identified to be vaccinated. It is the goal of the health district for those priority groups identified by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) to be vaccinated first. SWDH, and the six other health districts in Idaho will be responsible for distributing the vaccine to community partners in the counties we serve. We are told that the first shipments of H1N1 vaccine should be expected around mid-October. SWDH will operate medication dispensing centers, also known as Points of Dispensing or PODs, where large numbers of residents can receive vaccinations at sites located within the six counties in southwest Idaho. Staff is currently working with larger venues in each county to find out availability and solidifying commitments of where vaccine may be stored. POD plans are being scrutinized to determine how many people will be needed to staff the clinics. It will take many people beyond public health staff to form the “strike teams” needed to staff the PODs. Volunteers are now being recruited. At least one POD will be scheduled in each of the six counties. Resources and information have been provided to school districts, school nurses, daycares, colleges, universities, hospitals, clinics, businesses, and media. Members of the SWDH Planning Team are meeting with community groups as requested. Updates of information will be posted to this site and/or released to the media as become available. Please see the H1N1 links for more information. |
